U of L to Research Kid-Safe Drugs
Many parents are shocked when they learn that no more than five
of the 80 drugs most frequently used by children have been researched
and labeled for pediatric use. The University of Louisville is joining
a federal research effort to ensure that medicines are safe for
children. The U of L Kosair Charities Pediatric Research Unit will
take part in the Pediatric Pharmacology Research Unit Network.
Willihnganz Named University Provost
Shirley
Willihnganz, U of L’s acting executive vice president and
university provost since 2002, was appointed April 21 to the permanent
position today during a meeting of the executive committee of the
university’s board of trustees. President James Ramsey recommended
her appointment as the university’s second-highest ranking
official and chief academic officer following an internal search
conducted by a committee of faculty, staff, students, trustees and

qualified, collaborative academic leader who works equally well
with faculty, staff and students.”
